I watched that again recently, and a series which I thought was really funny when it first came out looked dated, boring and not very amusing at all! |
Yes, but wouldn't it be lovely if it was possible to force the BBC to show the whole series on BBC2 all over again - those linen-suited liars would be diving for cover!!!
|
In today's PC charged atmosphere, I bet they wouldn't be allowed to show it.
In its day it succeeded because of the racism and bigotry in society, which is much less now than it was years ago.
Today Alf would be revered by the BNP as a role model!

I know but it would be great to force them to show it and then make the swines watch it, just for my own personal entertainment.

The BBC thing the other night was truly woeful..
Quite simply the greatest sitcom ever is SPACED which didn't even get a mention...
Carry on...

Maybe the pair of you should look up the word IRONY in the Dictionary.
Don't quote me on this but maybe you will find it just after the entry for IRON.
On a side note, did you know that Alf (aka Warren Mitchell) is a vociferous campaigner for the legalisation of weed

Agreed, Spaced was mint but there did seem to be a bias against modern shows - I mean The Office, I'm Alan Partridge and Phoenix Nights piss all over stuff like The Vicar Of Dibley.
Surprised there's been no mention of "Orrible", Jonny Vaughan's foray into the world of sitcom writing!

Not to mention The Games and Frontline - both Australian shows.
The Games was about the farce getting the Sydeny Olympics organised. Frontline was a comic take on how a Current Affairs news show is made. Both brilliant...

Anything but 'Friends' ! I hate American comedies.
Of those mentioned so far, my favourites would have to be:
Allo Allo,
Father Ted,
Fawlty Towers. |

Less of the Friends hating in here please. Yes, it isn't always funny but there can be some chuckle moments.
**expects backlash**

The only way to watch Friends is with the sound off, and even then they'd better show a lot of Jennifer Anniston...
How could Allo Allo slip my mind!? Damn that show was great...

I'm not a massive fan too but there has to be room for Cheers.
Their best attempt yet.
Something like 10 years of episodes with all the shades Fawlty Towers / The Office.
