York City Supporters' Trust writes ...

It was on this day last year that the Trust announced the fantastic result of a weekend of fundraising. It had kicked off with a 10am Press Release on Thursday 20 February and, just 72 hours later, the Trust had banked over £50,000. After days of despair the previous week, things were beginning to look up for the Trust as a result of ' fan power ' . The momentum to save City got a real boost that weekend in February. It really struck home just how much our Football Club meant to so many people. The onus was now on the Trust - and those charged with leading the Rescue Package - to press forward harder than ever to Save City. As history now tells us, we (the fans) won the battle to Save City in the early months of 2003. In turn, that enabled the Trust and the new Club to work towards a suitable ground solution, in relation to which there's been the announcement earlier this month.

One year on, for a moment, some of you may wish to reflect back on what was achieved at that time, what has been achieved since, and the hard work that faces us York City supporters in the future. With hard work, commitment and unity, we can continue to achieve.

Press release from 24 February 2003 wrote:

"The passion and commitment to ensure the survival of York City Football Club has once again been demonstrated over the past few days, as City fans and supporters of other clubs boosted the coffers of the Supporters ' Trust.

Trust spokesperson Steve Beck commented: " In the space of just four days, around £50,000 has been raised in the fight to save City from extinction. It has been an overwhelming response, not just from City fans, but from football supporters around the country and beyond. "

Saturday 22nd February 2003 could have been the last match ever for York City Football Club. Trust officials are now confident that the imminent threat of extinction can be been lifted, providing time for the Trust ' s Offer to acquire the business and assets to be progressed by the Administrator. The Trust ' s Offer is the only offer to rescue the Club.

Discussions will be held with the Administrator to ascertain, amongst other matters, how the Club now moves forward over the next few weeks. Once that is established, the Trust ' s focus will move towards the funding of the actual rescue package itself. There are still various ' hurdles ' to overcome, and the work to save City is far from over. The money raised over the past few days can provide a vital lifeline to the Club. The Trust ' s solution offers a massive benefit. Not only is there a substantial financial return to the creditors, but also to the players, staff and football creditors going forward. And, of course, the Trust ' s solution saves the Club for the supporters/community.

The emergency funds have come from a number of sources over the past few days, and the money is still being added up. It includes:
- Over £20,000 of donations via the www.ycst.org.uk
- Around £20,000 cash raised at Saturday ' s match against Bury;
- Collections on behalf of the Trust at other clubs over the weekend, including around £2,000 from each of Sunderland (v. Middlesbrough) and AFC Wimbledon.

The Trust wishes to thank all those supporters who both organised the events of the past few days and all those people who have demonstrated their support financially. The fight to save City goes on."
