6-a-side football with City supporters

Want to play football with other City fans?

Red and Blue Net have a football session organised for every Sunday at Oaklands Sports Centre.

Our current players on a Sunday are aged between 12 and about 40 years old, so there are players of a wide range of ages.

You don't need to be any good at football either - we aren't!

We are a little bit short on players so please come down this Sunday if you can!

Details:

  • Every Sunday. 6:45pm meet for a 7pm prompt start. Finish by 8pm.

  • At Oaklands Sports Centre, Cornlands Rd, Acomb.

  • £1.50 YCST Members  (on production of valid membership card)
£1.00 Junior Reds  (on production of valid membership card)
    £2.00 Non-Trust members

Special offer: This Sunday (13 December) FREE game for all new players who are members of the Red and Blue Net forums*

If you wish to participate please email so we know to expect you, and so we have a rough idea of what number to expect. The game could be 5, 6 or 7 a side depending on numbers.

The game is always on regardless of weather conditions unless it is very severe (e.g. heavy snow or a storm). We cannot cancel sessions due to bad weather, if in doubt as to whether the pitch is playable or not, phone Oaklands Sports Centre on 782841.

* Anyone who has not yet tried one of our 6 a side games can play for free, if you are registered on our forums. Just tell us your forum username!

Directions to Oaklands from the city centre

For a map of the area click here

By car (approx 15 minutes from town):-
Go down Tadcaster Road, past the racecourse, until you get to the junction with St Helens Road to your right (just before this junction you will see a petrol station on your right, also the Cross Keys pub is to your right at the corner of St Helens Road and there is a church to your left). Go down St Helens Road (over the railway line), it changes name to Thanet Road , you'll see Edmund Wilson swimming pool and Hob Moor to your right, then go straight across the mini roundabout, the road changes name again to Gale Lane. There is then a road to your right (Tudor Road) just before another mini roundabout, a church is to your left, turn left at this one Cornlands Road (should be signposted to Oaklands Sports Centre) and it's the 2nd turning on your left with a big blue sign saying Oaklands School & Sports Centre at the entrance. Go up the drive and you'll see the astroturf on your right.

By bus (approx 20 minutes from town):
Get the no 4 (every 10 mins until about 7pm then every 30 mins) which stops outside Oaklands Sports Centre in Cornlands Road. It takes about 20 minutes by bus.

Alternatively you can get the no 1 into Acomb then the no 4 from Acomb to Cornlands Road - this is shorter but involves a change of buses.

See the First York bus map.

Walking (approx 35 minutes from town):
If you're walking, same directions as by car above except you can cut a huge corner by walking across Hob Moor: there is a footpath to your right along Tadcaster Road after you pass Pulleyn Drive but before the Arndale Hotel, walk straight down it (not left) under the railway line, then follow it round until you get to the mini roundabout near Edmund Wilson's swimming pool, then turn right and you're on Gale Lane, after a few minutes at the next mini roundabout turn left into Cornlands Road (same as above).
