| Red and Blue NET was conceived in early
November 1998. Webmaster at the time, Will Thornton, set out to provide a
comprehensive guide to York City FC on the internet in early October of
that year by launching York City FC Online but as the site gradually
began to look more professional, the site was renamed and popularity
grew thanks to publicity from the Yorkshire Evening Press. We were able
to develop our service further thanks to the Press when we were granted
permission to use their photos in return for acknowledgements where
necessary.

The purpose of the site is to promote York City Football
Club over the internet in an unofficial and non-profit making capacity
by providing football fans, and in particular York City fans, with up to
date news and information on the club. The site was given a face-lift
for the 1999-2000 season, when the site moved to a new URL -
yorkcityfc.co.uk from it's previous GeoCities URL.
The site has since been completely re-designed for 2003
and is almost unrecognisable from the early days.

The site has won plenty of praise from many quarters
including Match of the Day magazine who said it was 'the best
unofficial York City site on the net' and in addition, the Evening
Press proclaimed it 'a professional looking site, bursting with
information on York City FC.' The site was also praised by Football
Review who gave the site 9/10 and said 'This site could beat the
pants off most Premiership sites I've seen - it certainly fills the
criteria for what should be included in a web site'.
The site closed in Summer 2002, and only the forums -
moved to a new URL yorkcityfc.com - were open until the site was re-launched at the
new address in a new format in September 2003.
The site can now be accessed at the original address yorkcityfc.co.uk
as well as yorkcityfc.com and yorkcityfc.net.
