People see Tim, and they see the
goggles, and they go; “you’re not fooling anyone, we know you’re
rock and roll through and through”. And boy do we know it!
The oldest player to grace Red
& Blue line-up Tim is a well travelled footballing mercenary. His
career started at Flying Camel FC, Taiwan, where he helped them secure
them the League title in ’85 and finish runners up in ’86 to
Taipower FC of the Kaohsiung District (formerly Taiwan Power Co. FC).
You may ask what a player from
the sleepy town of
Devizes, Wiltshire was doing playing at the top flight of
Taiwanese football?! Well we’re here to clear up the vicious rumours!
Most of us were in nappies when
Tim was plying his footballing trade. In 1984 Tim was a young aspiring
entrepreneur, he travelled to
Taiwan
in search of adventure, wealth and a bride. He went
over with Christian missionaries to convert them Hindu’s and them
Jew’s to a better way of thinking. With a plan to get rich from
religion Tim took over 10,000 Bibles to sell to the Taiwanese Churches
that were being erected around the country.
Trade was brisk, but other than
finding their religion Tim also introduced a brand of football that the
Jap's had never seen before. Strong, agile and blessed with amazing
close control Tim stood out on the local park. In 1984 it was then that
then manager of Flying Camel FC, Ji Yu Fan, who scouted Tim and
promptly signed him up.
Tim was a revelation in the
Taiwanese leagues, scoring 69 goals in 132 appearances for his Christian
brothers. Tim, dubbed ‘Super Tim Wills’, was a fans favourite not
only for his performances on the pitch but the fact he drove the minibus
to away games as well! Willsy lived the live of riley! Driving in the
morning, scoring for fun, and enjoying fine dining at KFC establishments
around the country.
At the tender age of 34 Tim,
nearing retirement, met a local woman who convinced him to get
her a British passport and settle down back in England.
Tim Wills - father figure, lady
pleaser, minibus driver and a former semi-professional player in the
Taiwanese Nation Men’s 1st Division Football League. We salute you!
