Yalcin was born in Middlesbrough in 1985, and started his career as a member of Newcastle United’s Centre of Excellence where he played as a midfielder. However, Yalcin was not to feature in Newcastle's plans, and was eventually brought to York City.
Through his father, Levent qualifies to play for Turkey, and has represented them at under-18 and under-19 levels.
Yalcin signed professional terms in the summer of 2002, but has yet establish himself as a first-team regular after 3 years at the club. He has made several first team appearances, but has scored few goals for the club. His most memorable moment so far is his wonder-strike against Morecambe during the 2004/2005 season.
